Players Craft announces new virtual workshops
Virtual casting submissions, auditions, and training are now the norm. Some projects even involve self-taping for the final production. It’s clear: actors must now be more involved in the behind-the-camera portion of the business than ever before. Simply turning on the computer and Zooming into an audition isn’t going to cut it much longer. Savvy actors who can make their homegrown presence look, sound, and feel more professional are going to have distinct advantage. Of course, there’s no substitute for a great performance, but technical flaws can destroy even the finest performance in a heartbeat.
Coming in September, Players Craft will be presenting two online workshops with an eye on conducting much of our business online. These workshops, taught by professional acting coach Stephen Burhoe, are fully updated with the latest information and techniques to keep your submissions and interviews as professional as possible. Both performance and technical issues will be addressed.
‘It has always been my philosophy, as an acting coach, to take away reasons for them to say, ‘no’,” says Burhoe. These workshops were previously taught in live sessions and have been updated to incorporate the new normal in the business.
Stephen Burhoe has been way ahead of the curve on this material. Earlier this year, before Covid, he was teaching his Auditioning Outside The Box workshop as a live seminar. It contained cutting edge techniques for self-taping and performance to enhance actors’ odds of getting a callback and booking. He and his students have been booking parts, via both self-tape and Skype interviews long before Covid–parts booked without ever setting foot in a casting office. The new normal was already on its way. Covid just sped up the process.
These workshops are intense and will cover a lot of ground. But, Burhoe has a saying: “If you’re acting and you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.”
